RSA Responds to Force Main Break in Lake of the Woods

12/25/25, 3:25pm - Rapidan Service Authority (RSA) crews are currently onsite in Lake of the Woods addressing a sanitary sewer force main leak.
RSA identified a break in a sewer force main located at 832 Eastover Parkway. The issue resulted in a discharge of approximately 500 gallons of wastewater. The spill traveled into the Small Lake (Keaton's Lake) in the vicinity of 105 Larkspur Lane.
Current Status:

Leak Stopped: RSA crews have successfully isolated the line and stopped the leak.

Repairs Underway: Repair crews are preparing to excavate the site to repair the force main.

Cleanup: Remediation and cleanup efforts have commenced in the affected area in accordance with environmental standards.
Resident Advisory: While the volume of the spill was contained relatively quickly, RSA advises residents to avoid contact with the water and soil in the immediate vicinity of 105 Larkspur Lane and the adjacent shoreline of the Small Lake until further notice. Please keep pets and children away from this specific area while crews complete their work.
Coordination: RSA has notified the Lake of the Woods Association (LOWA) regarding this incident. We are working closely with LOWA management to minimize disruption to the community. RSA has also reported this incident to the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ).
